Library Media Center Mission Statement

The mission of the Marlboro County School District's library media centers is to assist members of the learning community in becoming effective users of information and to foster the love of reading. 

Library Media Center Goals

The staff of the library media center will work to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by:

  • Providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
  • Providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
  • Working with other educators to design and implement learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.

Library Media Center Objectives

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to locate information and materials in the library using common library practices such as the Dewey Decimal System and the online catalog.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to effectively use online resources such as DISCUS and knowledge of the internet, including online safety.
  • Students will effectively use resources when conducting research and choose materials that best meet their research needs.
  • Students will read for recreation as well as for learning at appropriate text complexity levels.

The MCHS Media Center is open daily from 8:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. School IDs are required to visit the Media Center independently. IDs and media center passes are required from first bell to last bell.

Exploring Your Library's Resources with Destiny QUEST.  Click here to view a short video on how to access and use the Destiny Quest Feature. 

Access the MCHS Media Center collection of eBooks online as a guest or school patron.  Guests may read books from the collection with a guest username and password available from the school library media specialist. 

Students and faculty members may check out and read books from the collection on their Smart phones, tablets, and PCs.  Contact the school library media specialist for access to this service.

DISCUS    Access to DISCUS, South Carolina's Virtual Library, is available from school  and home. To access from home, please consult your school's Library Media Specialist for the username and password. Passwords are not required from school.
